Ma quando rincasarono scoprirono che Huxley aveva ricoperto da cima a fondo una parete della sua camera appena imbiancata con un’eccitante storia a fosche tinte scritta in minutissimi caratteri di stampa.
“Non ho potuto resistere” disse Huxley. “La parete sembrava un’immensa pagina bianca. Dovevo assolutamente scriverci una storia.”
Ma i genitori di Huxley, che non erano scrittori, non capirono perchè su un grande spazio bianco e vuoto fosse assolutamente indispensabile scriverci.

But when his parents got home, they found that Huxley had covered a wall in his room that had just been whitened, he had covered it from top to bottom with an exciting gloomy story written in tiny minute typeface.

– I could not resist – said Huxley – The wall looked like a limitless white page. I had absolutely to write a story on it.

But Huxley’s parents, who were not writers, did not understand why it was absolutely necessary to write on a big huge empty white space.
