Double Indemnity

Real good noir novella from James M. Cain, who wrote masterpieces such as Mildred Pierce and The Postman always rings twice. The writing is tense and the dialogues are hard-boiled style. A dark lady, a weak man, an insurance policy to collect on the murder of an inconvenient husband. The plot unfolds on measured twist plots, developing on the grittiness and the brutal reality of wicked people acting on greed and lust. Short story, recommended, you’ll finish in a few hours.

Billy Wilder made a masterpiece movie on 1944 based on this novel, starring Barbara Stanwyck  as femme fatale, a classic L.A. Noir Hollywood Tale.

Bad things happens when you have evil intentions and ask the goddess of death to be your partner in crime.

“But all of the sudden she looked at me, and I felt a chill creep straight up my back and into the roots of my hair. `Do you handle accident insurance?’- she asked.”
